  9. The software you just installed has created two icons on your desktop.  The VisionNet ADSL 101U Modem Control Panel icon will take you to the Control Panel of the Modem, which will allow you to manage your modem if you ever have problems.  It will also show your connection speed.  The VisionNet 101U icon will take you to your dial-up connection for your ADSL modem.  We will discuss this in the next section.

  10. Double-Click on the Modem Control Panel icon now.   This program shows you general information about your modem and connection speed.   From this screen, we need to verify your connection settings to the DSL service.   At this screen, press the ALT key and A at the same time.

  11. After you have pressed ALT and A, you will see the Administration screen.  Look at your screen.  If it says that VPI=0 and VCI=100, proceed to step 13.  If it says that VPI=0 and VCI=35, proceed to the next step.

  12. We need to change the VCI number to 100 so that the modem will successfully connect to the DSL service.  Click the Protocol Setup tab and change the VCI number to 100.  In the screen below, it has already been done.   This is what your screen should look like.  Click OK to save this change.   WARNING:  Only make this one change in the VPI/VCI setup.  Any other changes you make to the modem settings may cause the modem to function improperly.

  13. The software that was installed created a Dial-Up Networking connection called VisionNet 101U in your Dial-Up Networking settings.  We must change some settings to optimize your DSL experience.  Go to My Computer, then click Dial-Up Networking.  Right-click the VisionNet 101U connection and click Properties.  Click the Server Types tab and unclick Log on to Network, IPX/SPX Compatible, and NetBEUI.  Click OK to continue.
