Installing the SkyRocket 200L ADSL Modem
Splitrock Internet
- Insert the USB Modem installation CDROM into the CD-Rom drive.
- Double click the My Computer icon located on the desktop.
- Double click the CD icon for your CDROM drive.
- Double click the Setup icon
and a welcome screen should appear.
- Click Next to install the drivers.
- Select Yes, I want to restart my computer now, click on the Finish button.
- When the computer has restarted back into windows you are now ready to connect the modem to your PC.
- Connect the telephone line for your ADSL service into the port labeled ADSL Line.
- Connect the rectangular end of the USB cable into your PC, the other end will connect to the modem.
- The power light on the front of the modem should go to a green color and the USB and ADSL lights will start blinking.
- Windows should detect the modem and install the drivers for it.
**Note, if you are running Windows 98 SE it may ask to insert the Windows 98 CD-ROM. You may be able to locate the necessary files by typing in c:\windows\options\cabs in the look in box. If the files are not located there you will need to put the CDROM in the drive and type in x:\win98 (where "x" is the letter of your CD-ROM drive.)
- A message box may come up asking if you want to restart the computer, say Yes.
** The following instructions are for Windows Millennium Edition. If you do not have Windows Millennium Edition, skip to step 21.
- After the computer has restarted, click on the Start button, go to Settings, and click on the Control Panel.
- In the control panel you should see a Network icon. Double click it.
- A Network window should appear. Make sure that you are on the Configuration tab, and click on the Add button.
- Next, you should select Protocol from the list of network components to install, and click on the Add button.
- In the Network Protocols window, select PPP over ATM (protocol) and click on Ok.
- This should take you back to the Network window, click on Ok at the bottom of the window.
- A message box may appear asking you to restart the computer, say Yes.
- When windows has restarted you are now ready to make the connection to the Internet.
- Click on the Start button, go to Programs, Accessories, Communications, and click on Dial Up Networking.
***Check to see if you have an icon entitled Dial Up-PPP Connection, if you do have the icon double click on it and skip to step 29.
- Double click the icon for Make New Connection.
- In the box titled Enter the name of the computer that you are dialing, type in Splitrock ADSL.
- In the Select a device section, select DSLWanUsb-Line01 from the drop down list. Click on the Next button to continue.
- If there is an area code in the Area Code box, delete it out.
- In the Telephone Number box type in 0,100 and click on theNext button.
- Click on the Finish button and you are now ready to connect to the Internet.
- Double click on the icon that says Splitrock ADSL.
- You will need to type in the username and password that you selected (make sure that you use the –0002 (This will be @dsl for all customers after May 31st) after your username or else you will not be able to connect), and click on Connect.
- You should now be connected to the Internet.
- If you want the Splitrock ADSL icon to be located on your desktop, right click on the icon and choose to Create Shortcut. Windows will ask if you want to place a shortcut of the item on the desktop, say Yes.
