Installing the SkyRocket 200L ADSL Modem

Splitrock Internet

  1. Insert the USB Modem installation CDROM into the CD-Rom drive.
  2. Double click the My Computer icon located on the desktop.
  3. Double click the CD icon for your CDROM drive.
  4. Double click the Setup icon and a welcome screen should appear.
  5. Click Next to install the drivers.
  6. Select Yes, I want to restart my computer now, click on the Finish button.
  7. When the computer has restarted back into windows you are now ready to connect the modem to your PC.
  8. Connect the telephone line for your ADSL service into the port labeled ADSL Line.
  9. Connect the rectangular end of the USB cable into your PC, the other end will connect to the modem.
  10. The power light on the front of the modem should go to a green color and the USB and ADSL lights will start blinking.
  11. Windows should detect the modem and install the drivers for it.

    **Note, if you are running Windows 98 SE it may ask to insert the Windows 98 CD-ROM. You may be able to locate the necessary files by typing in c:\windows\options\cabs in the look in box. If the files are not located there you will need to put the CDROM in the drive and type in x:\win98 (where "x" is the letter of your CD-ROM drive.)

  12. A message box may come up asking if you want to restart the computer, say Yes.

    ** The following instructions are for Windows Millennium Edition. If you do not have Windows Millennium Edition, skip to step 21.

  13. After the computer has restarted, click on the Start button, go to Settings, and click on the Control Panel.
  14. In the control panel you should see a Network icon. Double click it.
  15. A Network window should appear. Make sure that you are on the Configuration tab, and click on the Add button.
  16. Next, you should select Protocol from the list of network components to install, and click on the Add button.
  17. In the Network Protocols window, select PPP over ATM (protocol) and click on Ok.
  18. This should take you back to the Network window, click on Ok at the bottom of the window.
  19. A message box may appear asking you to restart the computer, say Yes.
  20. When windows has restarted you are now ready to make the connection to the Internet.
  21. Click on the Start button, go to Programs, Accessories, Communications, and click on Dial Up Networking.

    ***Check to see if you have an icon entitled Dial Up-PPP Connection, if you do have the icon double click on it and skip to step 29.

  22. Double click the icon for Make New Connection.
  23. In the box titled Enter the name of the computer that you are dialing, type in Splitrock ADSL.
  24. In the Select a device section, select DSLWanUsb-Line01 from the drop down list. Click on the Next button to continue.
  25. If there is an area code in the Area Code box, delete it out.
  26. In the Telephone Number box type in 0,100 and click on theNext button.
  27. Click on the Finish button and you are now ready to connect to the Internet.
  28. Double click on the icon that says Splitrock ADSL.
  29. You will need to type in the username and password that you selected (make sure that you use the –0002 (This will be @dsl for all customers after May 31st) after your username or else you will not be able to connect), and click on Connect.
  30. You should now be connected to the Internet.
  31. If you want the Splitrock ADSL icon to be located on your desktop, right click on the icon and choose to Create Shortcut. Windows will ask if you want to place a shortcut of the item on the desktop, say Yes.
