Instructions on setting up the Pairgain 500L Modem

Step 1. Make sure that you have all the necessary cables for the modem. In the modem packaging you should have a phone cable, Ethernet cable*, and power cable for the modem.
*The cable that comes with this kit is a straight through cable. If you are connecting this modem directly to your PC you must flip the switch on the back of the modem from MDI to MDI-X.
Step 2. Connect the telephone cable from the wall jack to the back of the Pairgain 500L modem (this jack will be labeled ADSL.)
Step 3. Connect the Ethernet cable from the back of the Pairgain 500L modem to the Ethernet card on the PC.
Step 4. Connect the power cable to the DSL modem and plug it in. After a few minutes the SYNC and MAR lights under the ADSL section on the front of the modem should go to a constant green color. This means that the DSL line is working properly. If they do not come up green make sure all cables are plugged in securely and the modem is not plugged into a micro-filter.
Step 5. Setup the PC to make sure it is ready for the Pairgain 500L modem.

Windows 95-98 Instructions:

1. Click on the Start button, Settings, and click on the Control Panel.
2. In the control panel you should have an icon that says Network, double click it.
3. Look for the TCP/IP adapter on the list of components, (will appear towards the bottom of the list.) Make sure that if you have multiple TCP/IP adapters to select the one that corresponds with your Ethernet adapter. (An example is TCP/IP->3Com Ethernet 10/100)
4. Highlight the TCP/IP adapter and click on Properties.
5. The TCP/IP Properties window should come up next, click on the IP Address tab.
6. Make sure the dot is next to Obtain an IP address automatically and click on the Ok button at the bottom.
7. Click on Ok again on the Network Properties window.
8. Windows may ask you to restart, say Yes.

Windows ME Instructions:

1. Click on the Start button, Settings, and click on the Control Panel.
2. In the control panel you should have an icon that says Network, double click it. * If you do not have an icon that says Network you may have to choose View all Control Panel Options on the left hand side of the screen.
3. Look for the TCP/IP adapter on the list of components, (will appear towards the bottom of the list.) Make sure that if you have multiple TCP/IP adapters to select the one that corresponds with your Ethernet adapter. (An example is TCP/IP->3Com Ethernet 10/100)
4. Highlight the TCP/IP adapter and click on Properties.
5. The TCP/IP Properties window should come up next, click on the IP Address tab.
6. Make sure the dot is next to Obtain an IP address automatically and click on the Ok button at the bottom.
7. Click on Ok again on the Network Properties window.
8. Windows may ask you to restart, say Yes.

Windows NT Instructions:

1. Click on the Start button, Settings, and then click on the Control Panel.
2. In the control panel you should have an icon that says Network, double click it.
3. Click on the Protocols tab.
4. Highlight the TCP/IP protocol and click on the Properties button.
5. Click on the IP Address tab, make sure the dot is next to Obtain an IP Address.
6. Click on Ok.
7. Click on Ok again on the Network Properties Window.
8. Restart your PC.

Windows 2000 Instructions:

1. Click on the Start button, Settings, and then click on the Control Panel.
2. In the control panel you should have an icon that says Network and Dial Up Connections, double click it.
3. Right click on the Local Area Connection for your network. Select Properties from the menu.
4. In the Components window scroll down to TCP/IP make sure that it has a checkmark next to it. Highlight it and click on properties. Make sure the dot is next to Obtain an IP address automatically.
5. Click on Ok.
6. Click on Ok for the Local Area Connection Properties.
7. Restart your PC.

Step 6.After you have successfully setup your computer to communicate with the Pairgain 500L modem, the LINK light under the LAN section on the front of the modem should be a constant green color. If this light is not green, the modem is not connected properly to the PC or the Ethernet card has not been configured correctly. Please check your Ethernet cable to make sure it is connected securely, if you are using the Ethernet cable that came with the kit and you are connecting the modem directly to the PC, make sure that the switch on the back of the modem is set to MDI-X. If the LINK light is still not going to a solid green color, contact your computer manufacturer/Ethernet card installer to verify that the card is installed and working correctly.
Step 7. After you have restarted your PC, the modem should have assigned your PC an IP address. Open Internet Explorer or Netscape and type in the address line http://192.168.0.1/ and press enter. In a few seconds you should see a screen that says Megabit Modem Configuration and Management Tool.
Click on the button that says Change DNS Server.
For the Primary DNS Server type in: 63.65.239.28
Secondary DNS Server type in: 137.118.1.32
Click on Ok.
Click on the Change Password button next.
Type in the User Name and Password that your were given.
Click on Ok.
Click on the Advanced button.
Select Easy Session under the Main Menu section.
Click on the Edit button next to Session 1.
Check to make sure that under the Permanent Virtual Circuit section that your ATM VPI is set to 0, and the ATM VCI is set to 100. If they are not, type them in correctly.
Click on Submit if you have made any changes.
Click on Easy Session under the Main Menu.
Put a checkmark next to Session1.
Click on the Enable button at the bottom of the screen.
Click on your Refresh button if you are using Internet Explorer, or Reload if you are using Netscape.
Next to Session1 there should be a dot in the Up column.
Click on Home under the Main Menu section.
Service Selection box, if Session1 is currently in the Service Name box click on Connect. After it connects you may get a window that pops up a few times, click on cancel or no.
In the address line in Internet Explorer or Netscape type in a web page address (such as http://www.splitrocktel.net/ ) and you should be surfing the web!!

Special Notes:
If you disconnect power from the Pairgain 500L it will lose its connection to the Internet. You will need to go to address http://192.168.0.1/ in Internet Explorer or Netscape and click on the Connect button for Session1. At that point you should be reconnected to the Internet.
