1. Take the D-Link External modem out of the box and place it next to our computer.
2. Plug the power cord into the back of the D-Link External modem and then plug the power pack into your power source.
3. Once the D-Link External modem power is on, connect one end of the included Ethernet cable to the D-Link External modem's Ethernet port and connect the other end of the cable into the NIC (Ethernet card) which is installed in your computer.
4. Turn on your computer. Once your computer finishes loading your operating system (Win9x/ME/2000), the Ethernet Link light on the D-Link External modem should light up green. If this does not light up, your Ethernet cable connection is bad and you'll need to check your cable connections or NIC for proper installation and operation.
5. Plug your phone line from your wall jack directly into the port that says "ADSL" on the D-Link External modem. After a minute or two the ADSL Link light on the D-Link External modem should light up green.
Note: If your ADSL Link light doesn't not turn to a solid green, then your ADSL phone line has a problem. You will need to call Customer Service and have them transfer you to the Repair Department.
6. Right-Click the Network Neighborhood (win 98) or My Network Places (Win ME/2000) icon located on your desktop display. Then Left-Click "Properties." See diagram below:

7. Highlight the line that reads "TCP/IP -> ( your NIC adapter) and Left-Click "Properties." See diagram below:

8. At this screen, Left-Click the "IP Address" tab. Select "Obtain an IP address automatically." Then Left-Click OK.
9. Windows may want to restart your computer, if Prompted to do so, Left-Click "Yes" to restart your computer now. If Windows does not ask you to restart your computer, Then Left-Click OK twice to return to your desktop display.
10. The D-Link External modem requires Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher, or Netscape Communicator 4.0 or higher (CTCN does not supply customer support for Netscape Communicator).
11. Double Left-Click your IE Browser and enter this URL in the Address field: http://192.168.0.1 You may need to Left-Click the option "Work Offline." This will launch the D-Link External modem's integrated web-based management system.
12. Left-Click "Go" or just press your Enter key to activate the modem's web-based management system.
13. Your IE Browser should find the D-Link web-based page with a button which reads "Login to the web-base management module." Left-Click on this button. See diagram below:
14. The "Enter Network Password" dialog box appears. Enter the default User Name and Password (use admin for both User Name and Password), check Save this password to your password list and Left-Click OK.
15. Left-Click the link on the left-side menu called "Connection Type."
16. In the middle of the page, you will see the "Connection Type" page. For Encapsulation Protocol Left-Click the downward pointing black arrow to Select "Router with PPPoA."
17. Left-Click OK. You will see a "Microsoft Internet Explorer" dialog box stating that "Changes will have no effect until 'Save Changes'." Left-Click OK when this appears.
18. Left-Click "Save Changes" on the left-side menu. Allow a few minutes for the Changes made to save to the D-Link External modem.
19. Left-Click on the button "Save Configuration" in the middle of web-based page.
20. Next the Restart System page appears, Left-Click the "Restart" button.
21. Your IE Browser should take you back to the D-Link web-based page with a button which reads "Login to the web-base management module." Left-Click on this button.
22. On the right of this web-based page you should see "PPPoA configuration." Type in your Login User Name: (ex. username@ctcn.net) and your Login Password (use lowercase letters for both username and password).
23. Leave the Authentication field to "chap."
24. Change the Connect On Demand to "Enabled."
25. On left-side of web-based page, Left-Click "Save Changes".
26. Left-Click on the button "Save Configuration" in the middle of web-based page.
27. Next the Restart System page appears, Left-Click the "Restart" button.
28. Your IE Browser should take you back to the D-Link web-based page with a button which reads "Login to the web-base management module." Left-Click on this button.
29. At this time you should be able to connect and browse the web. Left-Click the "Connection" button.
30. Enter a familiar URL in your IE Browser Address Bar and Left-Click Go or just press your Enter key on your keyboard.
